The street (which was formerly Wesley Street) grew out of Wesley Place, which itself took its name from the chapel opposite on Lawton Road, and from which it is sometimes difficult, in the records, to distinguish the side street. It is also difficult to know exactly how old the oldest 6 houses, nos. 2-8 and 5-7, are. The earliest found mention of the street as such appeared in the autumn of 1877, and between about 1898 and 1901 two more houses were added; at the start of WW1 there were about 14. All one can guess is that the earliest of all were built by Samuel Davies, who was not only very active at the time but extremely local.
